Indonesia celebrated its 79th Independence Day in Nusantara, the new capital city. The ceremony was held at the new Presidential Palace, while simultaneous celebrations took place in Jakarta's Merdeka Palace.

However, the Nusantara project has faced criticism for environmental damage and displacement. The government is contributing 20% of the $33 billion budget for the project, which relies heavily on private investment.

The construction of Nusantara has fallen behind schedule, and the initial 8,000 guests had to be reduced to 1,300 due to insufficient infrastructure. President Widodo, who has led Indonesia for 10 years, attended the celebrations alongside President-elect Prabowo.

The new capital is expected to accommodate 1.9 million people by 2045 and aims to relieve the overpopulation and flooding issues in Jakarta. However, the project still faces uncertainties, and environmentalists are concerned about accelerated deforestation.

Despite the challenges, the government is determined to realize its vision of a sustainable and prosperous future in Nusantara.
