Lauterbach Defends Hospital Reform and Promises Support Amid Financial Difficulties

Federal Health Minister Lauterbach visits the Werner Forßmann Clinic to discuss financial difficulties and future prospects. He defends the controversial hospital reform and promises support.

The clinic has a deficit and has to use its reserves. The reform aims to reduce financial pressure and anchor quality rules.

Remuneration for treatment cases has been changed to flat rates, and service groups with minimum requirements will determine financing. The state hospital association demands more scope for the states to offer more outpatient services.

A CDU politician criticizes the lack of consideration for distance as a quality feature. Lauterbach warns of the risk of hospitals going bankrupt if the reform is blocked.

He emphasizes the importance of quick implementation to save more hospitals. In Saxony, an additional 20 million euros in funding is provided for hospitals to stabilize the situation until the 2025 reform.

Lauterbach also warns of a significant increase in the self-pay share for nursing care and promises to propose a comprehensive reform after the summer break.
