Hamas to stay out of Gaza truce talks but may meet mediators afterwards

Hamas has decided to skip the Qatar ceasefire talks but may consider meeting with mediators afterwards. The US is expecting indirect talks to proceed but warns that urgent progress is needed.

Israel will be sending a negotiation team, including spy chief David Barnea, domestic security chief Ronen Bar, and military hostages chief Nitzan Alon. However, Hamas remains skeptical and blames Israel for stalling.

US envoy Amos Hochstein is in Lebanon to deter a potential Hezbollah-Israel escalation, meeting with parliament speaker Nabih Berri and caretaker PM Najib Mikati. Clashes continue in Gaza and the West Bank.

The recent assassination of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh has further complicated the situation, with Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar seen as a major obstacle. Despite these challenges, there is still hope for a ceasefire as Hamas remains committed to the proposed plan from July 2nd and wants mediators to bring a serious response from Israel on a mechanism to implement the ceasefire.
