Negotiations on Gaza ceasefire and hostage release resumed

Israel's Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has announced that negotiations on a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip and the release of hostages will resume in Qatar's capital, Doha. The talks will include representatives from Israel, the United States, and Egypt, with the possibility of Hamas also being involved.

The discussions are based on a plan put forward by US President Joe Biden, which includes a six-week ceasefire that could be extended for further negotiations. The plan also calls for the Israeli army to withdraw from populated areas in the Gaza Strip and the release of Israeli hostages in exchange for Palestinian prisoners.

The negotiations come amidst escalating tensions following the killings of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh and Hezbollah military chief Fuad Shukr, with Iran and Hezbollah threatening retaliation. The US, Egypt, and Qatar have been working as mediators to achieve a renewed ceasefire between Israel and Hamas.

Meanwhile, Israel has intensified its military operations in the Gaza Strip, and fears of a wider regional conflict involving Iran have grown. The negotiations aim to prevent further escalation and bring an end to the conflict in Gaza.
