Habeck Expects Coalition's Budget Agreement This Week

Vice Chancellor Robert Habeck expects a resolution to the budget dispute within the week. The Green Party minister envisions a global decrease in spending for each ministry, aiming for a single-digit billion amount.

The FDP parliamentary group suggested a 1.5% across-the-board cut. While agreement has not yet been reached, there are ongoing positive and trustworthy discussions.

Habeck criticizes Finance Minister Christian Lindner for retracting the coalition's preliminary agreement on the 2025 budget, stating that doing so erodes trust. The leaders of the SPD, Greens, and FDP have been in confidential talks to address a remaining funding gap of five billion euros.

The revised budget proposal is expected to be sent to the Bundestag and Bundesrat by the end of the week. The first session week in the Bundestag begins on September 9th, with the budget plan to be discussed.

The deadline for submitting the budget proposal is unknown, but it is expected to be completed in time. The FDP has proposed across-the-board cuts and reductions in social benefits, while the SPD and Greens, as well as social organizations and labor unions, oppose these measures.
