Government Optimistic in Budget Dispute, No Agreement in Sight

The government is optimistic about finding a solution to the budget dispute, but no agreement has been reached so far. Talks between the SPD, Greens, and FDP are ongoing to close a remaining funding gap of 5 billion euros.

The revised budget proposal is expected to be forwarded to the Bundestag and Bundesrat by the end of the week. The parliamentary discussions will begin on September 9th.

The SPD expects a timely agreement and plans to prioritize strengthening security. The FDP has proposed a 1.5% across-the-board budget cut and also aims to save in the social sector, particularly with regards to the citizen's income.

Meanwhile, the FDP's suggestion of budget cuts has been met with criticism from Robert Habeck of the Greens. The FDP also calls for changes to the citizen's income through legal amendments.

The government is working intensively to close the funding gap, and discussions will continue until the budget is passed in November. The state budget for 2024 in Switzerland is expected to have a lower deficit due to adjustments in subsidies and taxes.
