Typhoon Gaemi Causes Deadly Flooding and Landslides in the Philippines and Taiwan

Typhoon Gaemi, a powerful storm, has intensified monsoon rains in the Philippines, causing deadly flooding and landslides. The typhoon has also hit Taiwan, resulting in evacuations and disruptions to daily life.

In the Philippines, over 200mm of rain fell in 24 hours, leading to the flooding of Manila and triggering landslides in Batangas and Mindanao. Typhoon Gaemi is the latest in a series of storms to hit the Pacific region, following Typhoon Prapiroon that caused casualties in the Philippines.

The government of the Philippines has issued warnings and deployed rescue teams to assist affected areas. Similarly, Taiwan has shut down and is bracing for the impact of the typhoon, with the northeastern coast expected to be most affected.

Both countries are no strangers to tropical cyclones, with the Philippines experiencing an average of 20 storms each year.
