Chinese Foreign Minister: Palestinian Groups Agree on Interim Government in Gaza Strip

Fourteen rival Palestinian groups, including Hamas and Fatah, have agreed to form an 'interim national reconciliation government' in the Gaza Strip, according to Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi. The agreement was reached during talks in China and marks an important step towards ending the division between the groups.

The Chinese government has been actively involved in brokering peace talks between the two factions and has expressed its support for a two-state solution. However, it remains to be seen what impact this agreement will have, as Israel and its allies, including the United States, have refused to accept any Palestinian government that includes Hamas.

Nevertheless, the agreement is a significant development in the ongoing conflict between Hamas and Fatah, and China's role as a mediator in the Middle East peace process is becoming increasingly important. China's increased diplomatic and economic engagement in the region, including its infrastructure project, the New Silk Road, further underscores its commitment to promoting peace and stability in the Middle East.
