Germany and Colombia have taken a significant step towards establishing a migration agreement aimed at mutually beneficial cooperation. On Wednesday, Joachim Stamp, Germany's Special Envoy for Migration Agreements, and Colombia's Vice Foreign Minister Jorge Rojas signed a declaration of intent for a migration partnership.

This agreement aims to promote scientific, labor, and educational migration while combating irregular migration. A bilateral steering group will soon convene to finalize the details.

Germany's Interior Minister Nancy Faeser emphasized the objective of attracting qualified professionals and reducing illegal migration. By facilitating education and training opportunities, Germany hopes to gain skilled workers essential in various sectors, from craftsmanship to healthcare.

Currently, around 14,000 Colombians are employed in Germany, with 3,500 students and postgraduates pursuing their studies. This initiative follows similar agreements Germany has with India, Georgia, Kenya, Morocco, and Uzbekistan.

Both nations aim to develop cooperative migration strategies that benefit their societies constructively and equitably.
