Controversy Over AfD Positions in School Debate

A recent school discussion at the Marie-Curie-Gymnasium in Wittenberge has sparked significant controversy. A CDU member presented the positions of the AfD, a party classified by the Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution as a right-wing extremist suspected case.

This event, although the AfD was not invited, led to substantial backlash and further political actions. The school principal, Andreas Giske, faces a disciplinary complaint filed by the AfD with the Ministry of Education.

The incident has prompted the State Parliament’s Education Committee to convene a special session at the request of the AfD. The discussion was organized by several youth groups and aimed to educate students on various political viewpoints.

Martin Hampel from the youth education project “F.A.N. Berlin-Brandenburg” was invited to present AfD positions, which has further fueled the debate.

The principal has defended the school’s decision, emphasizing the institution’s autonomy in managing such events. This situation highlights the ongoing tensions and challenges in political education, especially when involving parties with controversial standings.
