Central Europe Faces Severe Flooding Crisis

Central Europe is grappling with severe flooding following persistent and heavy rains. The Czech Republic, Poland, Austria, and Slovakia are particularly affected, resulting in extensive damage and multiple evacuations. Flood alert levels have been raised, with the Elbe in Saxony expecting significant rises. In Dresden, the ongoing demolition of the Carola Bridge has been complicated by the increasing water levels, with work to clear debris continuing around the clock to prevent further damage. In the Czech Republic, a clinic in Brno was evacuated as the Svratka River overflowed. Other regions, such as the Jesenik area, face critical conditions. Austria is preparing for what could be a once-in-a-century flooding event, with emergency services on high alert and numerous regions declared disaster zones. More than a dozen communities in Lower Austria have been evacuated as the Stausee Ottenstein reservoir threatens to overflow.

Poland is experiencing its highest rainfall since the 'millennium flood' of 1997, leading to the evacuation of several villages. Krakow has distributed sandbags to residents as it battles rising waters. In Germany, particularly in Bavaria and Saxony, authorities are bracing for significant flooding, with the German Weather Service warning of continuous rain and potential overflows.
