VW Workers Threaten Strikes Amid Job Security Dispute

Daniela Cavallo, the head of VW's Works Council and a key member of the IG Metall negotiating team, is threatening strikes in response to potential plant closures and job dismissals. She demands an extension of job security for VW employees beyond 2029 and a 7% pay increase for 120,000 workers in Germany.

The negotiations are tense, with terminated collective agreements and a peace obligation that expires at the end of November. Cavallo is also advocating for the reintroduction of the electric car purchase premium.

As the discussions progress, the possibility of warning strikes looms large, putting additional pressure on VW to meet the workers' demands.
