Winter's Early Return: Snow and Rain Hit the Alps

A significant weather shift has brought the first snowfall of the season to the Bavarian Alps. Up to 50 cm of fresh snow is expected, particularly on the Zugspitze and Brauneck.

This early winter onset coincides with persistent and heavy rain, posing a risk of flooding in the Berchtesgaden region. Continuous rain from Lusatia to the eastern edge of the Alps increases the danger of snow breakage.

Temperatures vary, with single digits in the southeast and up to 18 degrees in the north. Despite the current harsh conditions, a gradual improvement in weather is anticipated at the beginning of next week.

As the cold front moves across Bavaria, it brings both snow and the threat of severe rainstorms. While the north and northwest remain relatively mild and dry, the south faces potential flooding.

Travelers and residents are advised to be cautious, especially in higher altitudes where snow and ice present additional hazards.
