Typhoon Yagi Causes Devastation in China and Vietnam

Typhoon Yagi, the most powerful storm to strike China in recent years, has inflicted widespread destruction across Hainan and Guangdong provinces. The deadly storm has claimed the lives of two people and left 92 others injured.

Over 830,000 households were plunged into darkness as the typhoon knocked out power grids, though swift efforts restored electricity to 260,000 homes within an hour. One million people have been evacuated as airports and public transportation networks ground to a halt.

Yagi's destructive path first tore through the Philippines, where it caused $4 million in damage and left 16 people dead. Now, the storm is barreling towards northern Vietnam, raising alarms across the region.

Dramatic videos circulating on social media capture the storm’s terrifying force, showing doors and windows ripped from their frames, trees uprooted, and even a security gate lifted off the ground. Local residents shared harrowing accounts of buildings shaking violently, with billboards and advertisements torn away by the wind.

In addition to the structural damage, the typhoon has unleashed heavy rainfall and fierce winds, leading to widespread power outages and the felling of iconic coconut trees. Authorities have urged 10 million people to remain indoors and take all necessary precautions as the storm continues its assault.

China's Prime Minister has issued urgent directives aimed at safeguarding citizens, calling for coordinated evacuations in high-risk areas. Forecasters warn that the typhoon could bring torrential rains, triggering floods, flash floods, and landslides in the days ahead.
