The AfD's Optimism for the Federal Election

The AfD in Hesse is optimistic about the 2025 federal election after its successes in the state elections in Thuringia and Saxony. It is already preparing for it and wants to determine its candidates at a nominating convention.

Currently, four members from Hesse are sitting in the Bundestag, and it is expected that even more Hessian AfD politicians could be elected in the next election. There were counter-demonstrators around the party conference who were monitored by the police.

The AfD politician thanked the police for enabling a 'smooth process' of the party meeting. The party conference was accompanied by protests, with around 1500 people demonstrating against the AfD.

The AfD is the second largest faction in the Hessian state parliament and has significant influence with its veto power in important decisions. The AfD's Sperrminorität allows them to block important decisions and have a significant impact on the political process in Thuringia.
