Oropouche Fever: A Growing Concern in Europe and the Americas

Oropouche fever, transmitted by mosquitoes, is on the rise in Europe, with symptoms such as fever, headache, and chills. Although typically self-healing, severe cases are possible, resembling other mosquito-borne illnesses like dengue and zika.

While predominantly affecting travelers so far, concerns are escalating in Germany amidst fears of local transmission due to climate change. Travel advisories have been issued for various vacation spots where over 8,000 cases have been reported, particularly in Brazil.

The virus poses a particular risk to pregnant women but has not shown evidence of significant human-to-human transmission outside pregnancy.
