Biodiversity: Nabu: Country must not cut back on nature conservation

The Nabu in Thuringia is demanding at least 10 million euros per year for nature and species protection projects. They also want to preserve and expand the state program for nature conservation and landscape management.

The organization calls for action programs to revive floodplains, rivers, and to plant trees, hedges, and flower-rich roadsides. Nabu President Krüger warns of global warming and species extinction.

The Nabu wants to provide technical advice to owners, land users, and municipalities. However, a new government in Thuringia could potentially cut funding, as a coalition majority is lacking.

The Nabu-Stiftung Naturerbe NRW, founded in 1998, owns over 35 hectares of land, several properties, and 2.5 million euros in capital. They use these resources to protect habitats of rare species through donations, bequests, and investments that adhere to ethical and ecological guidelines.
