Argentina is demanding an arrest warrant against Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro, as the actions of the government could constitute crimes against humanity. The opposition does not recognize Maduro's election victory and claims victory for their candidate Edmundo González Urrutia, against whom the Venezuelan Attorney General's Office has issued an arrest warrant.

Former Ibero-American leaders, including Andrés Pastrana and Álvaro Uribe, are urging the International Criminal Court to issue an arrest warrant against Maduro and his chain of command for crimes against humanity and state terrorism in Venezuela.

Concerns have also been raised about the integrity of opposition leader María Corina Machado and presidential candidate Edmundo González. Venezuelan security forces have surrounded the Argentine Embassy in Caracas, where campaign advisors for opposition leader María Corina Machado are seeking refuge.

Maduro's government has intensified the repression against the Venezuelan opposition.
