The Irish court drops privacy case against X after data suspension agreement

X, a social media platform owned by Elon Musk, has reached an agreement with the Irish Data Protection Commission (DPC) to suspend data collection for EU users in order to train its AI model, Grok. As a result, the privacy case filed by the DPC against X has been dropped.

However, the European Data Protection Board (EDPB) may still investigate X's parent company, xAI, for potential violations of EU privacy laws. xAI is facing nine complaints filed by the European Centre for Digital Rights, alleging breaches of 16 articles of the EU's privacy laws.

The outcome of the EDPB investigation could result in penalties of up to 4% of xAI's global revenue. X developed Grok as a competitor to OpenAI's ChatGPT.
