Monkeypox vaccines donated by the EU arrive in the Democratic Republic of the Congo

Monkeypox vaccines have arrived in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, with 99,000 doses of the MVA-BN vaccine donated by the EU through HERA. More deliveries of the 215,000 doses acquired by the EU to share with affected African countries are expected.

UNICEF will be responsible for the vaccination campaign in the most affected provinces. A total of 3 million doses are needed to end the outbreaks, with 380,000 doses promised.

Africa has seen over 22,800 cases and 622 deaths, with a new variant mainly affecting children. The US has donated 10,000 doses to Nigeria, where 40 cases have been reported.
