Challenges and Changes in Schools: Teacher Shortage and Modernization

As the new school year begins, schools in Germany are facing various challenges. One of the main concerns is the shortage of teachers, particularly at elementary and middle schools.

To address this issue, 3,800 new teachers have been hired, with 1,600 of them in new positions. Additionally, 600 extra positions have been created for multi-professional staff.

The focus this year is on the health and relief of teachers, as well as the modernization of curricula and examination culture. In an effort to keep students informed about current events, a new constitutional quarter-hour has been introduced.

Furthermore, efforts are being made to strengthen basic skills in elementary schools through the implementation of the PISA offensive. Other important topics of discussion include the need for more equal opportunities and educational justice, as well as the introduction of a state bonus for poorer families.

Despite these challenges, over 1.7 million students, including 134,000 first graders, are excited to start their school journey.
