BMW is revolutionizing its engine factory by initiating pre-production of electric car engines set for series production by autumn 2025. Collaborating with Toyota, BMW aims to introduce the first hydrogen-powered premium vehicle by 2028, focusing on driving pleasure and sustainable technology.

The partnership intensifies to reduce costs and expand hydrogen vehicle infrastructure, targeting not just passenger cars but also commercial vehicles. The shift to a three-shift operation in Leipzig aims to boost daily production to 1,300 units, accommodating a new model introduction starting with combustion engines in mid-November 2023 and expanding to electric cars by early 2024, requiring 900 new employees.

The ambitious goal includes fostering a hydrogen society, although challenges remain regarding green hydrogen sourcing and funding a widespread hydrogen refueling network.
