The arrest warrant against opposition politician González in Venezuela has sparked criticism from the USA and EU. González's lawyer states that he has not yet applied for asylum.

Several South American countries and the UN Secretary-General call for a peaceful solution. Maduro refuses to recognize González as the election winner.

Human Rights Watch urges urgent action to stop the brutal repression in Venezuela, highlighting violations such as killings, arbitrary detentions, and harassment of critics. Venezuela is facing investigation in the International Criminal Court, and there is a review of the UN Mission's mandate.

The government has also passed legislation restricting the activity of NGOs. Repression is carried out by government-affiliated armed groups known as 'colectivos'.
