US Takes Aim at Russian Broadcaster RT Over Alleged Voter Manipulation

The US government is planning new sanctions and law enforcement actions against Russia for alleged attempts to manipulate public opinion before the November elections. The focus is on the Russian broadcaster RT, which has been banned in the EU.

China and Iran are also accused of wanting to influence public opinion. The US holds Iran responsible for 'more aggressive activities' during the 2020 election campaign.

A network of over 1,000 social media accounts financed by the Kremlin is said to have spread disinformation about the Ukraine war. An RT employee is accused of being part of this conspiracy.

The US government has imposed sanctions on RT and other Russian state media for interfering in the 2020 presidential election through the distribution of propaganda and disinformation. Two RT employees are facing criminal charges for hiring a content creation company to spread Russian propaganda on social media.

The US Department of Justice has also requested permission to seize 32 internet domains accused of undermining public support for US efforts to help Ukraine. The US is taking these measures to counter Russia, Iran, and other foreign actors' attempts to undermine American democracy.
