Norway Leading Electric Car Revolution with Combustion Engines Phasing Out

Norway is at the forefront of the electric car revolution, with 94.3% of new vehicle registrations being electric cars and 1.4% plug-in hybrids. In August alone, 11,114 vehicles were registered, of which 10,480 were electric, primarily led by the Tesla Model Y. The country aims to achieve 100% zero-emission vehicles by 2025, banning combustion engines in 2025, a decade earlier than the EU mandate.

Volkswagen is set to cease selling combustion engine vehicles in Norway starting in 2024. Norway's incentives, such as tax breaks, reduced parking fees, and allowing electric cars in bus lanes, have significantly boosted electric vehicle sales, with 68,435 electric cars sold since the beginning of the year.

Germany, in contrast, faced a 27.8% drop in new registrations in August 2023, with electric car registrations declining by 68.8%. Despite this, Norway remains unmatched in its commitment to transitioning to electric vehicles.
