US Embassy Expresses Gratitude for Swift Response to Bagging Incident in Izmir

Following an attack on two U.S. Marines in Izmir by a nationalist youth group, the US Embassy expressed gratitude towards Turkish authorities for swiftly intervening and apprehending the attackers.

The incident, involving members of the Turkish Youth Union (TGB), occurred during a port visit of the USS Wasp after joint training exercises. The TGB, a group advocating for national independence and Republican Revolutions, has been linked to similar actions in the past.

The motive behind the attack was reportedly related to a historical event. The US National Security Council expressed concerns over the incident, which led to the hospitalization of the Marines for evaluation.

Despite the ordeal, the Marines have returned safely. The Turkish security forces detained 15 individuals involved in the attack, prompting the US Embassy to confirm the incident and extend thanks to the Turkish authorities for their rapid response in addressing the situation.
