Turkey's Official Application to Join BRICS

Turkey has officially applied to join the economic cooperation group BRICS, months ago, due to its disappointment with the EU accession process and criticism of its stance in the Russia-Ukraine war. BRICS, consisting of Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa, was established in 2009 to counter the dominance of the US and its Western allies. The latest expansion of BRICS included Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates. Turkey's membership in BRICS is expected to enhance its geopolitical position. The move reflects Turkey's desire to establish relations with multiple poles of power and fulfill its commitments as a key NATO member, as well as its efforts to become a hub for Russian and Central Asian gas exports and attract investments from Chinese electric vehicle companies.
