Start of the school year: Several new schools opened in eastern Brandenburg

As the new school year begins, several new schools have opened in eastern Brandenburg, offering modern equipment and additional capacity for over 1,000 students. To address the teacher shortage, the Minister of Education has hired career changers, including over 1,700 new teachers in Brandenburg.

However, the Landeselternrat in Brandenburg criticizes the significant shortcomings in the education sector, with 455 teacher positions still vacant and concerns about the core subjects. The knowledge gaps caused by the pandemic have not yet been fully addressed.

The Brandenburger Landeselternrat emphasizes the importance of investing more in education and highlights that without the recruitment of Seiteneinsteiger, the school system would collapse. In Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, as the school year begins, there are increased efforts to improve German and math skills for primary school students, along with investments in school infrastructure.

In Tempelhof-Schöneberg, the Johanna-Eck-Schule and the Schule am Berlinickeplatz are planning to collaborate on a joint concept for a gymnasiale Oberstufe starting in 2026/2027.
