Parliamentary Elections in Azerbaijan: Dominance of the Ruling Party Likely to Remain

The parliamentary elections in Azerbaijan have been dominated by the ruling party, with President Ilham Aliyev and Vice President Mehriban Aliyeva among the voters. The election was brought forward due to its overlap with the UN climate talks (COP29).

Voters are demanding improvements in the education system and more employment opportunities. There are 25 parties and 990 candidates participating, with the Musavat Party and the Republican Alternative as opposition parties.

The recapture of Karabakh and the expulsion of Armenian residents remain significant topics. There are 200 international observers and over 6.4 million registered voters.
