Paris Paralympic Triathlon Postponed Due to Seine River Water Quality

Organizers of the Paralympic Games in Paris have delayed the triathlon scheduled for Sunday by a day due to concerns over the deteriorating water quality of the Seine following heavy rain. With around 4400 athletes participating, the triathlon, which involves swimming in the capital's river, will now take place on Monday.

The issue of bacterial contamination in the Seine has been a longstanding concern in Paris, exacerbated by recent rainfall during the Olympic Games. The decision to postpone the event was made jointly by World Triathlon, Paris 2024, and French authorities, with the possibility of a duathlon if water conditions do not improve.

Notably, the men's race at the Olympics was also rescheduled due to athletes experiencing nausea. The French government has invested 1.4 billion euros in cleaning the Seine and connecting households to the sewage system.
