Honduras to End Extradition Agreement with the United States: A Move Against US Interference

Honduras has decided to terminate a significant extradition pact with the United States in a bid to combat drug trafficking, with President Xiomara Castro criticizing US intervention. The agreement facilitated the extradition of former President Hernández, serving a 45-year sentence for drug trafficking and weapons crimes.

The US ambassador expressed concerns over a meeting with Venezuela's Defense Minister Padrino. This decision reflects Honduras' alignment with Venezuela's President Maduro, with Honduras being one of the few Central American nations to congratulate Maduro.

Over the past decade, 50 individuals from Honduras have been extradited to the USA. The termination of this agreement is likely to please drug lords and corrupt politicians in Honduras, signaling a shift in diplomatic tensions and a stance against external interference.
