Federal Harvest Report: Climate Change Significantly Reduces Yields

The effects of climate change have significantly impacted German agriculture this year, with changing weather conditions affecting crop yields and endangering entire harvests. Grain production, for example, decreased by 9.1% compared to the previous year.

Issues began with difficult sowing due to regional rainfall, resulting in a 5.7% reduction in grain cultivation area. Rapeseed cultivation also decreased by 7.3%, and preliminary data shows a 14.3% decline in harvest volume compared to the previous year.

A wet autumn, record-warm spring with late frosts, widespread flooding, and a moist summer with severe storms all contributed to the decrease in yields. The data indicates that the climate crisis has already fully impacted agriculture.

The German Farmers' Association expressed disappointment in this year's harvest and blamed both climate change and what they viewed as ideological policies by the government, such as restrictions on fertilizer and pesticide use. This situation highlights the urgent need for climate protection as a means of safeguarding our harvests.
