Tamedia Announces Digital Focus and Job Cuts

Swiss publisher Tamedia is realigning its operations to prioritize digital growth, resulting in the cutting of around 290 jobs. This includes 200 positions in printing plants and 90 in editorial offices.

The company will concentrate printing activities in Bern, leading to the closure of printing centers in Lausanne and Zurich. While the total revenue of the TX Group remained stable, declining advertising revenues at Tamedia and '20 Minuten,' as well as a decline in the printing business, have posed challenges.

However, Tamedia has seen an increase in subscriptions and improved its position in the digital user market. Publisher Pietro Supino and CEO Jessica Peppel-Schulz have closely overseen the strategy development, which also includes social plans and early retirements as part of the restructuring process.
