SpaceX has delayed the launch of the Polaris Dawn mission, which aims to conduct the first private spacewalk. The delay is due to a helium leak on the Falcon 9 rocket.

The mission plans to take astronauts up to 1400 km away from Earth, the farthest since the Apollo missions. The crew includes billionaire Jared Isaacman, who is funding the mission, and SpaceX employees Sarah Gillis and Anna Menon.

The mission will test new slim spacesuits developed by SpaceX. The ultimate goal of SpaceX is the colonization of Mars, and this mission contributes to the development of scalable spacesuits for long-duration missions.

The launch is scheduled for Wednesday from the Kennedy Space Center. The mission will also study the effects of long-duration space travel on the human body and test the laser-based Starlink communication system.

How dangerous is Polaris Dawn space walk from SpaceX Crew Dragon?

Technology
Economy
Billionaire Jared Isaacman could make history for all the right reasons during his Polaris Dawn mission when the hatch opens on a SpaceX Crew Dragon and he ventures out into the vacuum of space. He's sold on its safety, especially the sheer amount of development time in the new extravehicular activity suits all four members of the crew will have to wear during what would be the first commercial space walk in history. "I mean, an absolutely extensive amount of time has gone into it," he said du..
