Protests have erupted in front of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI) against the revision of the Regional Elections Law. Tensions escalated as TNI and Police personnel allegedly beat journalists and arrested demonstrators, including teenagers.

The protests also involved the use of a replica guillotine. The Constitutional Court (MK) spokesperson emphasized that the current Regional Elections Law has been tested for constitutionality, while the PDIP Faction in the DPR invited an escort together to revise the law.

The Advocacy Team for Democracy (TAUD) recorded 20 demonstrators arrested, and the police dispersed the participants. The DPR postponed the plenary session for the revision, and the government claimed to ensure freedom of expression.

The protesters demanded the cancellation of the law revision, while universities and civil society expressed their concerns. This issue has garnered attention both domestically and internationally, with media coverage from Singapore and Germany.
