EU Reduces Tariffs on Chinese-Made Tesla EVs

The European Union has revised its tariffs on Chinese-made Tesla electric vehicles, lowering rates for several Chinese EV companies. Tesla will face a 9% tariff, down from almost 21%.

Tariffs for other Chinese EV makers range from 17% to 36.3%. The final decision on countervailing duties from China is expected by the end of October, pending approval from the majority of EU members.

Some companies are considering producing cars in Europe or other regions to avoid these tariffs. China has strongly opposed the EU's findings and has launched a challenge at the World Trade Organization.

In response, China has initiated an anti-subsidy investigation into European dairy products. The decision to reduce tariffs on Chinese EVs brings uncertainty and risks for China's operations and investments in the EU.

Volkswagen is also working on an affordable EV priced under €25,000, while the Chinese brand Dongfeng plans to bring its electric vehicles to Europe, starting with Switzerland. The first Dongfeng EV, Nammi Box, costs €23,000 and has a range of 310 km.
