Ukraine: Russian forces intensify pressure on the eastern front

Russian forces have intensified their attacks on the eastern front in Ukraine. The Ukrainian armed forces faced attacks in Toretsk and Pokrovsk, with record levels of involvement.

The air defense intercepted a Russian raid and shot down 11 drones. Ukrainian President Zelenskyy called on allies to allow Ukraine to strike Russia, as Ukrainian forces have gained control over 1,250 square kilometers and 92 locations in the Kursk region, including the Russian border town of Sudzha.

The offensive in Kursk is seen as a major success, with the capture of Russian soldiers being the largest since the start of the war. The destruction of bridges over the Sejm river has hindered Russian supply and retreat routes, potentially encircling Russian troops.

The situation remains difficult in the eastern front, with ongoing Russian airstrikes. The US has pledged continued support to Ukraine, including intelligence sharing.
