The Sinking of Superyacht Bayesian: Missing Tech Tycoon Mike Lynch and Others

The British-flagged superyacht Bayesian, owned by Mike Lynch's wife's firm Revtom Limited, sank off the coast of Sicily after being hit by a waterspout, leaving one person dead and six missing, including Lynch and his co-defendant Stephen Chamberlain.

The sinking occurred during a fierce storm, and 15 of the 22 passengers and crew were rescued. Among the survivors is Charlotte Golunski, who heroically kept her 1-year-old daughter above water.

The missing individuals include Lynch's 18-year-old daughter Hannah, Morgan Stanley chairman Jonathan Bloomer, lawyer Chris Morvillo, and their spouses. The yacht, registered to Revtom Ltd and listed for rent at €195,000 per week, had a 56-meter length and 11-meter width.

It was known for its luxurious design, with sleek interiors by Remi Tessier and a 237-foot-tall aluminium mast. The search for the missing individuals continues, with specialized divers exploring the wreckage at a depth of 50 meters.

The sinking has raised concerns about the increasing danger of the Mediterranean due to climate change, with warmer waters leading to more violent storms.
