Federal Government to Cut Funding for Heat Pumps in 2025

The federal government plans to reduce funding for heat pumps and energy efficiency in buildings by 2.4 billion euros in 2025. The subsidies for energy-intensive companies will also be reduced by 600 million euros. While some warn of a premature end to the funding, budget politicians highlight the potential for reallocations within the Climate and Transformation Fund.

Federal Minister of Economics Robert Habeck assures that the funding will continue without any cuts. Despite the reductions, the Ampel government intends to maintain support for buildings and companies.

The total budget of the Climate and Transformation Fund is 34.5 billion euros, with funds allocated for various sectors such as buildings, microelectronics, hydrogen, and climate-friendly mobility. The funding for heat pump conversion will decrease by 600 million euros to 3.3 billion euros.

The government aims to avoid a funding stop due to inadequate funds. The KTF draft for 2025 includes significant allocations for heating support, microelectronics, hydrogen projects, and infrastructure for electric vehicles and hydrogen.

The expected revenue from CO2 pricing is 25 billion euros, leaving a gap of 9 billion euros.
