Thousands Evacuated as Ukraine Advances in Kursk

The Ukrainian incursion into Kursk, Russia, has resulted in the evacuation of thousands of people. This is the largest attack on Russia since 1945 and aims to create a buffer zone to protect Ukraine.

Ukraine's objective is to persuade Russia to negotiate, not to occupy their territory. The offensive in Kursk, led by Gen Oleksandr Syrskyi, has seen Ukrainian forces capture 1,000 sq km of territory, villages, and prisoners.

They have also targeted key bridges and disrupted Russian supply lines. In response, Russia has warned of a 'worthy response' to the incursion.

The UN has raised concerns about the risks to the Zaporizhzhia nuclear plant following a drone strike. Despite this, Ukraine's military presence in Russia is growing stronger, with their positions being reinforced.

Russia has evacuated over 120,000 civilians from the Kursk region due to panic and confusion among residents. The incursion has triggered missile attacks on Kyiv, with no casualties reported.

Ukraine continues to capture Russian troops, using them as leverage for the release of Ukrainian prisoners.
