Long waiting times for swimming courses, lasting up to 5 years for the 'Seepferdchen' badge and 2 years for the bronze badge, are becoming increasingly common due to factors like staff shortages, dwindling pool facilities, lack of water acclimatization, financial barriers, and insufficient integration of swimming education into school curricula.

These delays result in water accidents. The proposed solution involves a collaborative effort through a round table discussion among the federal government, states, and municipalities to tackle these challenges.

The DLRG has raised concerns over the extensive waiting periods, attributing them to the decline in swimming pools. Recommendations include implementing swimming lessons in school curricula and establishing local swimming centers to alleviate the strain on communities and ensure access to swimming education for children.
