Gaza ceasefire talks aim to bridge gaps

Mediators in Gaza ceasefire talks between Israel and Hamas have presented a proposal to 'narrow gaps'. Qatar, Egypt, and US officials met in Doha and plan to continue discussions in Cairo.

US Secretary of State Blinken is set to visit Israel. President Biden believes a ceasefire is 'closer than ever', but Hamas remains skeptical.

The proposed deal includes a ceasefire, hostage release, and Gaza reconstruction. However, there are sticking points, including Israel's demands for control over the Philadelphi corridor and screening at the Netzarim checkpoint.

In addition, the UN has called for a pause in polio vaccinations in Gaza after the virus was detected in sewage. Evacuation orders have also been issued for parts of Khan Younis and Deir al-Balah.

The talks have been described as constructive, but there is still work to be done. The aim is to find a solution that brings an end to the 10-month war and addresses the humanitarian crisis in Gaza.
