Kellanova, formerly Kellogg Company, split last year, with the snack business becoming Kellanova. The merger would create a snacking giant in the US food industry, with Kellanova's revenue of $13 billion and 23,000 employees.

Mars' acquisition strategy, expanding its snacking portfolio, follows previous successes like buying Wrigley's chewing gum business for $23 billion in 2008.
