Accelerating IKN Development: Jokowi and Prabowo Commit to Infrastructure Development

President Joko Widodo reaffirmed the government's dedication to the development of the Nusantara Capital City (IKN) in East Kalimantan, with Prabowo Subianto, the elected president, agreeing to expedite infrastructure construction and allocate a special budget. The construction of roads to the groundbreaking buildings will commence in January 2025. Investment in IKN has reached 56.2 trillion, with 55 buildings already underway.

Prabowo pledged his commitment to the project, stating that he believes the new capital will be fully operational within 3-5 years. He also expressed his intention to work from IKN once inaugurated as president.

Jokowi emphasized the importance of completing basic infrastructure in the core area before expanding to other regions. The government aims to promote equal economic development through the relocation of the capital from Java to IKN.

The project, which aims to alleviate the burden on Jakarta, has attracted investment from Japan and South Korea. Jokowi highlighted the low air quality index in IKN and instructed ministers to investigate the decline in the manufacturing Purchasing Managers Index (PMI).
