Kamala Harris selects Minnesota Gov. Walz as US presidential running mate

Kamala Harris has selected the governor of Minnesota, Tim Walz, as her vice-presidential candidate for the 2024 US election. Walz, a former teacher and military veteran, has distinguished himself as governor through his progressive policies. Under his leadership, Minnesota has made significant progress in areas such as education, health care and social justice. This election underscores Harris' strategy to appeal to Midwestern voters, even though Minnesota is not a crucial "blue wall" state.
Walz's selection is seen by some as an attempt to strengthen the ticket and build a bridge to more conservative voters, as he was successful in a predominantly rural and conservative district. Hollywood celebrities such as Julianne Moore and Rob Reiner have praised Harris' decision, describing Walz as a down-to-earth family man with strong moral values. Nevertheless, there is also criticism: some experts believe Harris has missed the opportunity to redefine herself by not choosing a candidate from a key battleground state.
Forecasts continue to strongly favour Donald Trump for the 2024 election, as he is seen as more innovation-friendly. Overall, Harris' choice of Walz as her vice presidential running mate has drawn mixed reactions and is seen as a typical, but not decisive, choice.
