Iran urged to limit retaliation against Israel

Russian President Putin has reportedly urged Iran to avoid causing civilian casualties in any retaliation against Israel following the assassinations of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh and Hezbollah commander Fuad Shukr. Russian Defense Minister Shoigu has warned that Iran's response could escalate tensions.

Hezbollah leader Nasrallah vows retaliation and aims to keep Israel on edge, with the possibility of coordination among Hezbollah, Iran, Hamas, and Houthis. The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) is set to condemn the killings, but Arab states remain cautious.

Iran supports a referendum, while Arab states support a two-state solution. Iran is also working to improve relations with Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, and Egypt.

The Arab world's hesitancy towards military action against Israel is deeply rooted in the traumatic defeats of the 1967 and 1973 wars. The US is working to de-escalate the conflict, with Secretary of State Blinken engaged in efforts around the clock.

Israel declares readiness for both attack and defense. Israeli raids in the West Bank have resulted in the deaths of 12 Palestinians, and Lebanon's foreign minister seeks to prevent total war.
