Israel vows to eliminate new Hamas leader Sinwar

Israel has announced its intention to 'quickly eliminate' the newly appointed leader of Hamas, Yahya Sinwar. Sinwar, who was previously the leader of Hamas in the Gaza Strip, is believed to be responsible for orchestrating the brutal attack on October 7th.

Israel's Defense Minister, Yoav Gallant, had previously stated that they would find and eliminate Sinwar. Since the attack, Israel has been conducting military operations in the Gaza Strip.

The appointment of Sinwar raises doubts about future negotiations and deals, as Israel has previously killed key Hamas leaders. Sinwar has a long history of involvement in the armed struggle against Israel and spent 23 years in Israeli prison before being released in 2011. Amidst heightened tensions in the region, the United States has privately warned that Iran and its proxies are preparing to strike Israel, and the international community is calling for de-escalation and a ceasefire.

Israel has not commented on the assassination of Haniyeh, which both Hamas and Iran have blamed on Israel and threatened retaliation for.
