Hezbollah, the Iranian-backed militant group in Lebanon, fired around 30 rockets into northern Israel in retaliation for Israeli attacks in Lebanon. The majority of the rockets were intercepted, and there were no reported damages.

The attack comes amidst escalating tensions in the region, following the killing of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh in Iran and Hezbollah commander Fuad Shukr in Lebanon. The international community is concerned about a further escalation, and the US has announced plans to strengthen its defense capabilities in the Middle East.

The US and France have called for restraint to prevent a regional conflagration. Turkish Airlines has canceled flights to Tehran, and the US and UK have called for their citizens to leave Lebanon immediately.

Protests have erupted in several countries in solidarity with the Palestinians.

Israel's PM Netanyahu clashed with US President Biden over Israel's assassination of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh in Iran, disrupting cease-fire talks. Netanyahu denied blocking a deal, arguing Haniyeh's death would pressure Hamas. Biden worried the killing could trigger wider war. Israel did not inform the US beforehand, fearing compromising them. Hamas May Emerge Battered, but Not Beaten, From Israel’s Latest Blows

Politics
Despite the deaths of Hamas's top leader Ismail Haniyeh and its most elusive and revered military commander, the displacement of 90% of Gaza's two million residents, the killing of 39,000 people, and Israel's military campaign in retaliation for Hamas's Oct. 7 attacks, analysts believe Hamas will survive the 30-year struggle with Israel and may even emerge politically stronger.
