Delta Air Lines Faces Investigation Following Global Software Outage

The United States Department of Transportation (USDOT) has launched an investigation into Delta Air Lines in response to the recent global software outage caused by cybersecurity company CrowdStrike. The outage, which affected airlines, banks, TV channels, and other businesses worldwide, has led to chaos at airports, with piles of unclaimed luggage accumulating.

Delta employees and workers are assisting customers in locating their bags in the baggage claim area at Los Angeles International Airport. CrowdStrike has attributed the breakdown to a flaw in its test software, which was distributed to millions of Windows computers.

The cybersecurity company has promised to change its update procedures to prevent similar incidents in the future. In addition to the disruption caused by the outage, Delta and Southwest Airlines are now facing regulatory pressure and scrutiny.

Senator Cantwell has expressed concern over Delta's compliance with passenger rights, while United Airlines managed to recover quickly from the incident. As post-pandemic travel increases, the chaos surrounding unclaimed luggage is reminiscent of the challenges faced by European airports in 2022.
