EU Officials Boycott Hungary's Informal Meetings over Diplomatic Push on Ukraine

Hungary's Prime Minister Viktor Orbán's unauthorized meetings with foreign leaders, including Russia's President Vladimir Putin and former US President Donald Trump, to discuss Ukraine have sparked outrage and led to a boycott of Hungary's informal meetings during its EU presidency.

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and other top officials have decided not to attend these meetings. The EU Council President Michel has publicly criticized Orbán's solo diplomacy on Ukraine, rejecting his claims of a 'pro-war policy'.

The EU's 27 member states have expressed consensus in supporting Ukraine, not Orbán's proposals. Legal concerns have also been raised over Hungary's actions, with the EU's legal service stating that they could breach treaties.

The boycott by EU officials underscores the growing tensions and disagreement within the European Union regarding Hungary's diplomatic efforts on Ukraine.
